On our way to Bruce Mines, we stopped at Serpent River. It was a welcome stop for a dip in the pool…and some RV amenities.
And a little pass through Blind River.
And don’t forget to stop to get pictures of horses…and cows.
We came to Bruce Mines to visit our sister-in-law, Ruby. Here is a woman who never rests. She gets up at 5:30 AM and works until she lays her head down at 11:00 PM: sweeping the drive, shovelling snow, cleaning the house, making her own pasta, canning, renovating and gardening. At 83 years old, she’s not slowed down one iota.
Bruce Mines is home to Canada’s first copper mine and it is on Mary’s River on the mouth of Lake Huron, making it part of the heritage Canadian coast. But the real reason it’s first in Allan’s book is the large traditional Mennonite community. It’s amazing to think that this community continues to live and thrive in their traditional ways, without modern technology.
A short pass through another picturesque little town Thesselon before heading to the big event in Sudbury!
Beautiful country and beautiful honest people! You have done them proud!
Great story, we have large Amish and Mennonite communities all around here also.
