Port Renfrew Paradise

When we arrived at Port Renfrew it was raining. It rained almost the whole time we were there. But it didn’t matter. It was one of the most naturally beautiful places we had visited.

The road, or maybe I should say, what lay between the entrance of Pacheedaht Campground and our campsite was a minefield of potholes. I think we lost a few wineglasses in those 3 minutes!

We headed to the beach during the moments of clear weather we had. It was incredible.

There were so many gnarled trees and logs on the beach.

We started seeing faces everywhere. Can you see some?

The mist and fog gave the whole bay a mystical and ethereal quality.

Unfortunately we didn’t make it across the whole beach before it started raining. “To the trees! I’ve got to protect the cameras!” If we thought the logs on the beach had faces in them, the trees looked like they were straight out of a Grimm’s fairy tale. I could see how people could easily get lost. After 5 minutes and 2 sightings of bear scat, we had to backtrack.

Luckily it stopped raining long enough for us to pick up a few souvenirs on the way back.

No cell phone or internet coverage but with power at our site, we knit, listened to music and marvelled at the beauty of the world from the warmth of our little home. I finally finished my sweater.

To top it off, Allan even found elk in the meadow next door.

Who says you can’t return to paradise? We’ll definitely be back!
