The little hotel Auberge de la Madone in Peillon was a gem in the mountain, quaint, rustic with a location to die for. “Just arriving at the Auberge de la Madone is to be immersed in silence and the azure-tints of the inland Nice countryside…a voyage to nature’s fountain, mountain fresh air, a proud old village waiting to be discovered and loved.” (Auberge de la Madone brochure)
The hotel was originally built in 1946 by Christian Millo’s family. It started as a restaurant and a family home. Christian’s father was also a chef. It was converted into a hotel and it is of course already booked for next year’s Grand Prix in Monaco.
At the hotel restaurant “l’Authentique”, the chef, Christian Millo and his son Thomas created a meal like none that Allan or I have ever tasted. OMG! It was the best meal of our lives. The location, the hotel, the food and of course the company, made our first evening here the most romantic, luxurious experience ever. We had our evening meal each night for the 3 nights we were there. Each night, the chef offered us a different menu.
The hotel rooms are reasonably priced and the amenities are basic (ie no air conditioning!) but the food at the restaurant will be double your room rate. It is worth it though. The food and the location make the Auberge de la Madone one of the best finds of our trip!
